What does it actually take to build a world? Or to make a reader care about a character they've never met? Our syllabus is designed by working writers for writers who work.
We start with the bedrock. You'll explore the architecture of narrative, from the inciting incident to the resolution. We don't just talk theory; we write. Expect to produce 2,000 words of foundational prose by the end of week four.
- The Hook: Capturing attention in 250 words.
- Conflict: Internal vs. External drivers.
- Pacing: The silent language of the paragraph.
How do we blend truth with imagination? In this module, we dive deep into "faction" - the art of using real-world research to anchor fictional worlds. We'll examine world-building for both contemporary and speculative settings.
Our weekend retreats offer an intensive focus on the self. You'll learn to curate your own experiences into compelling personal essays suitable for submission.
